Let Us Pause… To Honor the Memory of William Joseph (Bill) Adams
Mr. William Joseph Bill Adams, age 63, entered this life on December 9, 1942, in Madison, Indiana the son of William H. and Mary Charlotte (Scroggins) Adams; both of whom preceded him in death. Bill was raised in Madison and attended Central High School until the time he enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17 years and 2 months. Bill finished his GED while serving in the U.S. Army and was very proud that he finished his degree before his classmates graduated. Bill united in marriage to Sherilyn K. Akiona on December 16, 1972 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii and they were blessed with four children. Bill and Sheri lived in Hawaii from 1976-1990 and from 1998-2006, and when not in Hawaii, they resided in Madison. Bill was a Retired Special Forces Officer who served in Vietnam on two separate occasions during his 21 years of service. While serving his country he earned the Silver Star Medal, Bronze Star Medal (w/ valor device and Oak Leaf Cluster), Purple Heart Medal (w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (w/ 1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross (w/ Silver Star). He was authorized to wear the Combat Infantryman's Badge, Expert Infantryman's Badge, Master Parachutist's Badge, Vietnamese Jump Wings, the Special Forces Tab and 4 overseas service bars. He served with the 101st Airborne Division, Americal Division and the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), among other units. He was stationed at Ft. Hood, TX; Ft. Campbell, KY; Schwa Bach, Germany; Ft. Benning, GA; Vietnam; Ft. Gordon, GA; Ft. Bragg, NC; Vietnam; Ft. Benning, GA; Omaha, NE; Ft. Bragg, NC; Pohakuloa Training Area, HI; and Tripler Army Hospital, HI. In addition to his lifetime military career as an Infantry and Special Forces Officer, his early employment years included the Hillside Inn. During his employment, the movie “Some Came Running” was being filmed and Bill was actively involved with the cast and crew. He was also an extra in the movie. Bill was a member of the Manville Christian Church, life member of the VFW Post #1969, the Disabled American Veterans, decade member of the U.S. Army Special Forces Association, and the NRA. He was a licensed Maritime, all water pilot in the state of Hawaii. He loved to fish and particularly enjoyed deep-sea fishing in Hawaii. William died July 4, 2006 at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.

Adams of Madison, Indiana; 4 daughters & sons-in-law: Isalei Center & her husband Chuck of Milton, KY, Luanalei Keakealani & her husband Sonny of Renton, WA, Deborah Melville & her husband John of Canton, MI, Leilani Baggett & her husband Norm of Westland, MI; 3 sons & 2 daughters-in-law: Sgt. First Class James “Kalima” Adams & his wife Becky of Clarksville, TN, Barry Adams & his wife Jill of Homer, MI; son: Daniel “Keanae” Adams of Madison, IN; 9 grandchildren; brother: Daniel Adams and his wife Judy of Zelwood, FL; 4 sisters: Jan Ligon and her husband Peyton of Birmingham, AL, Bonnie Auxier and her husband Tim of Dupont, IN, Patti Frazier of Madison, IN, Cheryl Ashby and her husband Jim of Madison, IN; and a special uncle Russ Scroggins and his wife Shirley of Madison, IN.
He was preceded in death by his Parents: William H. & Mary Charlotte (Scroggins) Adams, one brother: John L. Adams of Madison, Indiana.
